Scope

A sewer pipeline running underneath a major roadway in Brisbane City required rehabilitation to prevent potential structural failures and environmental risks. The pipeline had existing gaps between two separate sections, necessitating an effective sealing solution to ensure long-term integrity and prevent unwanted groundwater entry.

Services Provided

  • Pipeline Cleaning & Preparation: TDG Environmental performed high-pressure cleaning and flushing of the pipeline to remove debris and prepare the surface for repairs.
  • External Coupling Installation: Initial civil works were carried out to join the two disconnected sections using external pipeline couplings.
  • Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP) Patch Installation: Two DN225mm x 600mm structural CIPP patches were installed to seal the pipeline internally.
  • Post-Installation Condition Assessment: A detailed inspection and condition assessment report were provided to validate the repair effectiveness and confirm the new pipeline condition rating.

Challenges

  • Structural Integrity: Ensuring a complete seal on the pipeline to prevent leaks and groundwater ingress while maintaining its long-term durability.

  • Roadway Considerations: The repair work was conducted beneath a major roadway, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruptions.

  • Environmental Protection: Preventing potential sewer leaks that could impact the surrounding environment and infrastructure.

The outcome

TDG Environmental successfully rehabilitated the sewer pipeline, achieving a fully sealed and structurally reinforced solution. The intervention prevented potential sinkholes, safeguarded the roadway, and ensured the long-term reliability of the asset. The project demonstrated TDG’s expertise in pipeline rehabilitation and commitment to delivering high-quality, durable solutions for critical infrastructure.

Project Highlights

  • Enhanced Structural Durability: The CIPP patching method provided a 100-year design life, ensuring long-term pipeline integrity.

  • Prevention of Future Sinkholes: We eliminated any chance of a sinkhole forming, which could have compromised the road surface.

  • Client Satisfaction: The asset owner and client were very happy with the quality and efficiency of the work performed.
