What is GPT and SPS Cleaning?

Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT): A Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT) is a stormwater filtration device designed to capture and retain large solid waste and debris to prevent pollution in water bodies. It functions by allowing water to flow through while trapping litter, sediment, and debris over five millimetres in size.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of GPTs are crucial to ensure their effectiveness in preventing blockages, reduced flow capacity, and potential flooding during heavy rain events. With extensive experience servicing over 3,000 GPTs quarterly, we are proficient in ensuring these assets function optimally in stormwater management solutions.

Sewer Pump Station (SPS): Sewer pump stations are vital for efficient water and sewage services, but inadequate maintenance can lead to blockages, fat buildup, and eventual system failure, causing wastewater overflow and environmental harm. Regular cleaning and maintenance of Sewer Pump Stations (SPS) are essential to ensure their effectiveness in preventing blockages.

What problem does GPT and SPS Cleaning solve?

Ensure continuous functioning of GPTs and SPSs

To ensure the continued functioning of your GPTs and SPSs, they must consistently be clean and free from debris and build-up, making a frequent maintenance schedule extremely important.

Limit unplanned downtime

A full or even partial blockage of your GPTs or SPSs can lead to unplanned downtime for your operations. Regular GPT or SPS cleaning can ensure this costly interruption is minimised.

Prevent pollution from entering waterways

While the role of a GPT is to stop gross pollutants entering our waterways, this can still occur if they are not maintained appropriately. The cleaning of your GPTs minimises the chance of this occurring.

Meet your environmental commitments

Eliminating or minimising the chance of pollutants entering our waterways is an essential by product of GPT cleaning and one that ensures you meet your organisational commitments to the environment.

GPT & SPS Maintenance and Cleaning Features

Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT): We take a unique approach to cleaning each individual GPT. Our fleet of bespoke vehicles and plant equipment has been designed specifically to effectively clean GPTs, and the vehicles in our fleet range from combination jet/vac units, and grab trucks, to small tippers. Our Combination Jet/Vac Units, have a unique design, allowing for multiple applications and loading requirements. Using a two-pump system, we are able to use one pump for the removal of large amounts of debris, while using the smaller pump to pressure clean any dirt, waste or sediment out of the GPT and ensure the grate is clean and clear for water to flow through the pollutant traps. At TDG we use Clamshell Grab Trucks with extendable boom arms, which are capable of clearing a range of bulk waste from GPTs.

To achieve an effective clean, we follow a thorough, stepped-out process, including.

  1. Inspection: a thorough inspection is conducted to help identify blockages, damage, or maintenance requirements to be addressed during the cleaning.
  2. Removal of Gross Pollutants and Sediment: we use specialised vehcieles and equipment to remove gross pollutants, such as plastic bottles, cans, leaves, branches, and sediment, from the trap.
  3. Jetting/Pressure Washing: High-pressure jetting or pressure washing may be used if necessary to dislodge and remove stubborn debris and build-up.
  4. Maintenance and Repairs: Any maintenance or repair needs are assessed and addressed. This may include repairing damaged components, replacing worn-out parts, or making adjustments to ensure full functionality of the trap.
  5. Disposal or Recycling: Collected waste and debris sorted and separated and are properly disposed of or recycled in line with environmental regulations.

All of our processes are completed in compliance with environmental regulations and stormwater management system guidelines. Once each clean is complete, a detailed report is provided as a record.

Sewer Pump Stations (SPS): Sewer pump stations play an extremely important role in providing efficient water and sewage services. When not maintained adequately, blockages can form, fat can build up and parts can start to fail. A back log of sewer can form as it cannot effectively flow through to the next stage of processing. This can ultimately lead to a wastewater overflow, causing harm to our environment.

TDG’s fleet of bespoke vehicles and plant have been designed to effectively clean SPS’s. This ranges from Combination Jet/Vac Units, Grab Trucks and small tippers. Our operators are specifically trained to clean each individual SPS unit uniquely, taking into consideration the SPS’s specifications and the most efficient order to clean the units. TDG’s Combination Jet/Vac Units have a 9.3m3 holding capacity to maximise productivity as less time is spent carting waste to a specified waste facility.

They have a 360° rotating vacuum boom with an impressive 7m reach to aid with reaching difficult to access units. They have the capacity to use vacuum and pressurised water from 2 separate pumps. One pump provides high water supply for moving large amounts of debris, while the smaller pump is utilised for high pressure cleaning. They have a vacuum power spanning 4,200-5,900cfm, enabling us to service greater heights and distance.

Our 8 inch vacuum system allows us to increase productivity as we can remove large amounts of debris in one go, further saving our customers time and money.

Boat Surveys

In large diameter pipes, the size, fast water flow, high water level and long distances between manholes prevent traditional CCTV cameras from being effective. The CCTV boat floats on the surface and is pulled through the pipe, this is widely used where flow is an issue but is an acceptable condition by the client during the asset investigation and cannot be mitigated. It can be coupled with the MSI unit to utilise not only the HD camera, but also the laser profiling tool, and sonar to create a 360° profile of the pipe.

What makes our service unique?

Bespoke vehicles and plant equipment

Our Combination Jet/Vac Units have a unique design, allowing for multiple applications and loading requirements. We also use small tippers and Clamshell Grab Trucks with extendable boom arms, capable of clearing a range of bulk waste from GPTs.

Our two-pump system

We use one pump for the removal of large amounts of debris, while using the smaller pump to pressure clean any dirt, waste or sediment out of the GPT and ensure the grate is clean and clear for water to flow through.

Tailored solutions, always to standard

We take a unique approach to cleaning each individual GPT to meet its specifications and always operate within environmental regulations and stormwater solutions guidelines.
