Scope

TDG was tasked by the client to conduct comprehensive data collection within the project’s catchment area to evaluate network conditions and renewal needs. This involved employing various techniques, including CCTV inspections, laser profiling, and GPS surveying.

This scope encompassed:

  • CCTV inspections of 1608m of sewer pipelines, including light flushing.
  • Snap-on laser pipe profiling covering 356m.
  • Track & trace of 602m of unlocated pipelines and manholes using camera and Radio Sonde.
  • GPS surveying of 70 manholes and 24 lamp holes, including inspections.
  • Soil clearance up to 300mm deep and scrubbing to uncover 19 buried manholes and lamp holes.
  • Heavy cleaning of 331m of semi-blocked pipelines affected by heavy fats.
  • Assessment of the suitability of lining and other renewal methods for each pipe within the project scope.

Challenges

  • Manholes situated in dense vegetation required innovative solutions for access.
  • Overgrown vegetation hindered vehicle access for pipeline cleaning.
  • Rootbound manholes needed cleaning to enhance CCTV inspection capabilities.
  • High infiltration into the system was exacerbated during wet weather events.
