Scope

A canal in Sydney required vegetation removal and desilting works to restore proper water flow and reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. The site presented significant access challenges, including no ramp access and extremely tight working conditions. TDG Environmental was engaged to provide a solution that would overcome these limitations while ensuring safe and efficient removal of overgrowth and built-up sediment.

Services Provided

• Specialised Vegetation Slashing: The Green Climber, fitted with a slasher attachment, was deployed to cut and clear dense vegetation inside the canal.
• Material Consolidation and Removal: Slashed material was systematically pushed to a central pickup area for efficient removal.
• Crane-Assisted Equipment Access: TDG’s Grab Truck was utilised as a crane to lower the Green Climber into the canal, bypassing the need for ramp access and enabling a non-invasive approach.

Challenges

• No Ramp Access: The site had no formal entry point for plant, requiring creative use of lifting equipment.
• Restricted Space: Extremely tight access throughout the project area demanded precise coordination and machine handling.

The outcome

TDG Environmental successfully cleared the canal of excess vegetation and sediment, restoring its intended flow capacity. The operation was completed without manual entry into the canal and without the need for civil access modifications. By leveraging specialised plant and adaptive techniques, TDG ensured a smooth, safe, and environmentally responsible result that met all performance expectations.
